If you’re one of the many thousands of people who travel around by car on a regular basis, you’ve probably wondered from time to time how you’d cope if your car broke down and you were stranded. Breakdown cover can help eliminate that worry as you know that if you do ever break down, you can just call a number and someone will be there quickly to assist you to get going again.
Breakdown cover is a service where someone will come out to you when your car has broken down. Roadside assistance is the most common type of breakdown cover, but there are many other sorts too from very basic to complete all in services.
There are quite a number of different breakdown cover services out there, the biggest two in the country are the AA and the RAC, but there are lots of others as well. Each different company offers their own different services, but most of them offer a range of service levels at different costs so you can choose what type of service you want to have. Do you just want to be covered if you break down away from home?, or would you prefer cover that will come out even if your car is still on your own driveway? Do you want one that will guarantee to get you to your destination, or one where they’ll just get you to the nearest hotel.

Breakdown cover might not seem that important if you have a car that’s working well, but unfortunately for most of us, there’s often not any indication that the car is going to have a problem before it occurs, and it’s worth thinking what you’d do if you were driving in the dark on roads you didn’t know and broke down. Or with all the recent snow that’s been about, how you’d cope if you broke down in really cold conditions and had to spend a long time ringing round local services to try and find someone to come and help, and possibly having to wait for hours for them to arrive. Obviously keeping a few bits in the car like a blanket and a warm coat in winter is a good idea regardless of your breakdown cover, but wouldn’t it be nicer to know that a single phone call and someone will be with you as quickly as possible!
